The Max-Flow filter system is easy to install and does not require any modifications. Using this filter kit will increase your RPM on your Stihl Chain Saw. When using this filter you will want to use the Bel-Ray filter oil. You will drizzle the Bel-Ray oil over the filter. In this case just enough to cover the filter, light. Our kits include: A filter cage, heavy-duty rain cover, two foam elements, a nut plate, and instructions. The system can be used with or without the rain cover.
The kit comes with a green element and a white one. Each of them different pore sizes for different working conditions. The small-pore (80) foam is best when working in dusty conditions. The large pore (60) foam offers maximum flow, but does not filter the fine particles. Both of these filters can be washed and reusable. MAX-FLOW recommends filters use BEL RAY foam filter oil after each cleaning.
Our Max-Flow filter kits are available for the Stihl ms 044, ms 046, ms 066, ms 660.
To install the Max-flow filter you should first:
1) Remove the factory cover and filter. Determine if your saw has any flanges that will interfere with the filter seating on the saw plate. If so the flanges may need to be trimmed (photo A) (on instruction pack)
2) The filter should preferably be mounted using the Max-flow cover (photo B). this keeps the element from being torn, and also helps prevent icing in rainy conditions. In some cases the element can be run exposed, and a securing plate is supplied for this application (Photo C). (on instruction pack)
3)The kit is supplied with a green (60 pore) and a white(80 pore) element. In most applications the green element will suffice, but because the white element holds more oil it should be used in more demanding cutting situations. before installation, thoroughly work a quality FOAM FILTER OIL,(such as Bell Ray or UNI) into the foam. CAUTION! DO NOT USE the red oil used on use bar lube, incorrect oil may damage the cylinder, insert the cage into the element and center it evenly (photo D). Place it over the mounting stud on the saw, and secure it with the cover nut from your factory cover. (photo on instruction pack)
4)Because your saw is breathing easier, most saws will increase their top end RPM and require a high speed mixture screw adjustment. Failure to adjust the RPM of your saw to factory specs will lead to over speed and premature failure.
5)Clean the element anytime you see dust or dirt in the cage to assure top performance. Use the solvent, foam filter cleaner, or soap and water. Completely dry the filter and re-oil it before use.
